The Clark College Web Development browser extension (“the extension”) is developed for Clark College Web Development students and instructors as a quick-access collection of links and resources. This policy explains what data the extension does and does not collect.
Summary
The extension does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data. It does not use analytics, tracking, cookies, or its own remote servers.
What the extension does
The extension displays a popup with curated links to external educational and development resources (documentation, tools, and Clark College pages). When you click a link, it opens the external site in your browser as usual.
Two links in the popup — “Validate HTML” and “Validate CSS” — read the web address (URL) of your currently active browser tab and use it to open the corresponding page on the W3C’s public validator services (validator.w3.org and jigsaw.w3.org) so that page can be validated. This only happens when you click one of those two links; the extension does not read tab URLs at any other time.
Permissions
The extension requests the activeTab permission. This permission is used solely to read the URL of the tab you are viewing when you click “Validate HTML” or “Validate CSS,” so that URL can be passed to the W3C validator. The extension does not read page content, form data, browsing history, or any other tab information, and does not use this permission in the background or without a direct user action.
Data collection and third parties
The extension itself does not collect or transmit any data to the developer or any third party, and does not use analytics or advertising services. Fonts used in the popup are loaded from Google Fonts (fonts.googleapis.com / fonts.gstatic.com), which is subject to Google’s own privacy policy (policies.google.com/privacy). If you click a link to an external site (for example, a validator, documentation site, or Clark College page), your interaction with that site is governed by that site’s own privacy policy, not this one.
Data storage
The extension does not use local storage, cookies, or any persistent storage mechanism to save information about you or your browsing activity.
Children’s privacy
The extension does not knowingly collect any information from anyone, including children under 13.
